Les archives des institutions psychiatriques sont le plus souvent mobilisées pour enquêter sur l’histoire de la prise en charge des troubles mentaux et de ses modalités dans nos sociétés. À partir du dossier d’un patient, interné dans l’Hôpital du Bon Sauveur dans le département de la Manche en France à partir de 1963, cet article se propose de montrer comment ces archives participent de l’écriture d’une autre histoire, celle de la décolonisation et plus particulièrement de l’indépendance de l’Algérie et de la fin de la colonisation française. Sont notamment étudiés les dessins réalisés par ce malade et la façon dont il témoigne de cette histoire collective.
