Abstract
In response to the growing interest in clinical education, the author provides an overview and assessment of Canadian clinical law scholarship. In particular, the article focuses on eight broad themes/ categories of Canadian clinical legal scholarship: (1) the practical experience rationales for clinical legal education; (2) the political and social justice rationales and implications of clinical legal education; (3) the place of clinical legal education within legal education; (4) critiques of clinical legal education; (5) clinical pedagogy, theory, and methodology; (6) clinical program design and policy considerations; (7) student perspectives on clinical legal education; and (8) histories and approaches of particular clinical legal education programs across the country. In conclusion, the author considers areas for further research and writing in order to encourage a more comprehensive theoretical basis to describe, analyze, and critique clinical law practice and teaching.
