Engaging and persuasive, Obstruction advocates for phenomena generally viewed as impediments to criticism—embarrassment, laziness, slowness, cynicism, digressiveness—as valuable to scholarship and intellectual life. Salvato brings to the surface the hidden value of obstructions, pairing each of his five phenomena with an example culled from contemporary media and performance.
