Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The solid-state structure of xenon trioxide, XeO 3, was reinvestigated by low-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction and shown to exhibit polymorphism that is dependent on the crystallization conditions. The previously reported α-phase (orthorhombic, P 2 1 2 1 2 1 ) only forms upon evaporation of aqueous HF solutions of XeO 3 . In contrast, two new phases, β-XeO 3 (rhombohedral, R 3) and γ-XeO 3 (rhombohedral, R 3 c ), have been obtained by slow evaporation of aqueous solutions of XeO 3 . The extended structures of all three phases result from Xe═O---Xe bridge interactions among XeO 3 molecules that arise from the amphoteric donor–acceptor nature of XeO 3 . The Xe atom of the trigonal-pyramidal XeO 3 unit has three Xe---O secondary bonding interactions. The orthorhombic α-XeO 3 displays the greatest degree of variation among the contact distances and has a significantly higher density than the rhombohedral phases. The ambient-temperature Raman spectra of solid α- and γ-XeO 3 have also been obtained and assigned for the first time.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
