Abstract
pioid use disorder refers to a problematic pattern of opioid use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5). All practition ers, regardless of specialty, will care for patients with this prevalent, chronic medical condition, including during acute hospital admissions.
