Abstract
L’insécurité, définie comme étant un thème résolument moderne, emprunte maintenant des formes qui rappellent étrangement ce qui se déroulait à la fin du siècle précédent. Tant sur le plan micro-social (que l’on pense à des phénomènes comme le suicide ou l’éclatement de la famille) que sur le plan macro-social (intensification de l’urbanisation, accroissement de divers types de criminalité), la correspondance est frappante entre les deux fins de siècle. Optant pour une approche diachronique, l’auteur s’intéresse aux crimes et à l’insécurité sociale qu’ils génèrent, la particularité du crime étant, à travers sa matérialité, d’appartenir « au monde sensible, vécu, des individus sans quitter le monde conçu ». Mais de quoi au juste le crime est-il porteur sur le plan de la représentation et sur le plan de la morale ? Défini comme un « opérateur logique », le crime permet de lire la nature du désordre et nous fournit en même temps les moyens de saisir ce qui caractérise, au cours des deux époques, « la décomposition-recomposition de la société française ».
