Abstract
Using the example of the state policy in Canada the article shows the transition from the policy of forced assimilation that was in fact a sort of cultural genocide towards indigenous people of the country to the policy of multiculturalism and voluntary integration. Special accent is made on long term consequences of functioning residential schools for indigenous children that has led to a collective soul trauma. Its healing is a necessary precondition for reconciliation in the Canadian society.
