Abstract
L'auteur, qui a soutenu une thèse sur l'histoire du cimetière en Allemagne et s'est particulièrement intéressé au développement de la crémation à l'âge industriel, nous propose ici une petite synthèse des travaux sur la mort à l'âge moderne et contemporain.Il s'agit selon lui de présenter dans ce livre « les lignes structurelles » des évolutions du rapport à la mort en Allemagne depuis l'époque de la Réforme, ce à partir des « lieux de la mort » : cimetières, pierres tombales, halles funéraires, crématoires etc. Avec le changement des cérémonies funéraires, ils témoignent des différentes attitudes face à la mort.L'auteur interroge aussi la littérature et l'art en tant que sources, qui nous parlent également de la mort et du souvenir.
