Abstract
Comment les acteurs, dans le cadre de leur travail, définissent-ils et perçoivent-ils l’économie-efficience et la place qu’elle occupe dans le rapport au travail. L’économie-efficience peut être considérée comme une variable qui entre dans la composition du travail au même titre que des règles et des normes, que des références à des savoirs et des manières de faire, que le droit ou des codes éthiques. Le plus souvent la référence à l’efficience est présentée sous un versant critique : la gestion des coûts, la pression des délais, l’emprise de la gestion sont autant d’éléments qui contraignent l’activité et obligent éventuellement à contrevenir aux règles de l’art. L’économie abîme alors l’image du travail et semble toute-puissante. Cependant, dans l’expérience du travail, elle prend aussi deux autres formes tenant l’une à son caractère réversible : elle offre des marges d’action et de liberté, l’autre à sa dimension de clôture permettant de mettre fin au travail et de l’inscrire dans la réalité sociale en conférant une utilité sociale aux activités.
