Abstract
La guerre franco-anglaise de 1627-1629 place, pour la première fois, la question des territoires français d'Amérique au cœur des relations entre les deux royaumes, les Britanniques s'étant emparés en 1629 de la Nouvelle-France et de l'Acadie. Si la restitution de Québec à la France ne pose pas de difficultés, dix-huit mois de négociations sont nécessaires avant que l'Angleterre n'accepte de laisser aller l'Acadie. Ces pourparlers, qui mobilisent le droit international naissant, montrent l'intérêt que prenaient différents ministres de Louis XIII aux affaires d'outre-mer et illustrent que celles-ci ne relevaient pas uniquement d'aspects stratégiques ou militaires, mais s'inscrivaient également dans la culture politique du temps. En effet, c'est en se référant à l'honneur national que le marquis de Châteauneuf réussit finalement à convaincre le gouvernement royal de la nécessité de remettre la main sur l'Acadie.
