L’analyse préliminaire d’entretiens réalisés auprès de personnes divorcées ou séparées fréquentant un club de rencontres à Québec incite à réexaminer la problématique traditionnelle de la solitude. La diversité des perceptions de ce phénomène social et des stratégies utilisées pour assumer ou contrer la solitude en fait ressortir la complexité et l’aspect dynamique. Opposé au paradigme dominant des relations sociales, mécaniste, moralisateur et pessimiste, le paradigme de l’esthétique, plutôt optimiste, permet de mettre en évidence le rôle insoupçonné de la solitude comme facteur de création de nouveaux espaces de solidarité dans la société de masse.
