Abstract
À partir d’un aperçu historique de la pratique de l’auto-impression, cette étude se penche sur les cas d’auto-édition conditionnés par la maîtrise des techniques d’impression manuelle, en appréhendant le livre comme objet culturel et dispositif iconotextuel, conformément à son « tournant matériel » sur le plan épistémologique. De fait, la technique informe les objets et en conditionne le continuum matériel : les procédés de gravure privilégiés pour « s’imprimer soi-même » évoluent en fonction de leur originalité, de la compatibilité de traitement du texte et de l’image, de leur proximité avec le trait manuel et de leur degré de technicité. Mais il s’agit ici d’évaluer le relatif échec éditorial des oeuvres « faites maison » par l’auteur, qui restent souvent confidentielles – faute de participation à l’industrie (et donc au monde) du livre et faute d’institutionnalisation, en dépit de leur statut d’imprimé publié –, afin de distinguer l’auto-impression des stratégies d’auto-édition, qui impliquent de plus larges diffusion et distribution.
