Abstract
Partant du constat que le vent de laïcisation qui a balayé le Québec de la Révolution tranquille n’a ni liquidé le fondement religieux de sa culture ni détruit son attachement au catholicisme, et faisant l’hypothèse que la poésie se présente comme un lieu privilégié d’expression et de perpétuation de cet attachement, cette analyse s’intéresse à une oeuvre poétique qui actualise la figure christique, et dans laquelle, transgressant les tabous, soumis à tous les excès, à toutes les violences, le corps du poète y est donné en sacrifice, se voyant du même coup transfiguré. En investissant l’iconographie religieuse et en s’inscrivant dans le sillage de Denis Vanier, Roger Des Roches forme avec d’autres une sorte de famille symbolique. Se dégageant peu à peu des avant-gardes et autres courants esthétiques en vogue, sa poésie contribuerait à étendre cette filiation au-delà de la veine contre-culturelle, la faisant remonter jusqu’à Saint-Denys-Garneau et même jusqu’à Nelligan, deux figures de poètes sacrifiés, permettant peut-être de lire autrement l’héritage catholique relayé par les poètes.
