Les déplacements d’habitants causés par la gentrification ont fait l’objet de nombreuses recherches depuis les années 1970. Les controverses qui en résultent portent aussi bien sur leur issue en matière de trajectoire résidentielle que sur leur existence même. S’il s’agit d’un objet d’étude difficile à appréhender, cela est moins lié à des raisons conceptuelles que méthodologiques. L’hypothèse proposée ici est que le projet urbain est un moment propice à l’observation et à l’identification de tels déplacements. Se pose alors la question de savoir si les déplacements occasionnés par la gentrification et ceux occasionnés par le projet urbain sont un seul et même objet d’étude. Cet article explore cette perspective à partir d’une enquête préliminaire réalisée, dans le cadre d’une thèse de doctorat, sur le périmètre du projet Euroméditerranée à Marseille.
