Abstract
The article deals with the hard life of a French trader and interpreter Nicolas Perrot, who lived in Canada in the sec. half of the XVIIth century. The man, who did his best to establish French-Indian relations, often sacrificed his interests for the benefit of the colony, whose stamina impressed the Indians, was debt-ridden, and could hardly make a decent living for his large family. That’s why we have only one volume of his memoirs, a book that is a valuable source of information, used by historians.
