Abstract
Intimement lié à son institution, le monument au Frère Marie-Victorin, de par son emplacement près des installations d'accueil des visiteurs, est consciemment mis en valeur par le Jardin botanique de Montréal l'ayant désigné comme objet phare de sa collection pourtant majoritairement végétale. Cette statue en plein pied se veut avant tout un hommage au fondateur de l'établissement, mais aussi un rappel de l'importance de cet homme dans l'étude de la botanique au Canada. Ainsi, le discours souligné par l'auteure de cet essai renvoie symboliquement à la fondation du lieu, de même qu'à l'importance du public montréalais dans son financement, bien que ce monument fut érigé plus de deux décennies après l'ouverture du Jardin botanique.
