Abstract
Abstract The Botswana government has been seeking to actively engage in the management of the economy in partnership with organized interests in the private sector in order to bring about a diversification of the market away from dependence on mining. This discussion looks at the institutional mechanisms of economic diversification policy governance and examines how the weak legitimacy of the government's approach to state-market partnership has negatively affected not only the outcome of economic development policies but also its relations with organized interests in the market, mainly business and labour.
