Abstract
Cet article explore les représentations de la consommation véhiculées par la Ligue ouvrière catholique au Québec, entre 1939 et 1954, en s’intéressant particulièrement aux influences du genre, de la classe sociale et de la religion. Basée principalement sur le dépouillement des deux journaux de la Ligue, Le Mouvement ouvrier (1939-1944) et Le Front ouvrier (1944-1954), l’analyse met en lumière le fait que de saines pratiques de consommation doivent servir à résoudre ce qui est pensé alors comme une crise des valeurs morales et matérielles des familles ouvrières. Le discours sur la consommation, forgé principalement par la section féminine de la Ligue, est destiné aux femmes considérées comme les principaux agents de changement dans les pratiques de consommation familiales.
