Abstract
Cet article propose une nouvelle synthèse de la représentation spatiale des activités reliées à la traite des fourrures aux sources de l’Outaouais entre 1760 et 1870. Ce territoire est riche en données ethnohistoriques encore inexploitées qui peuvent être compilées avantageusement en interprétant la carte dite de Cameron, produite en 1842 par un ou plusieurs traiteurs de fourrures. Associé à des récits de voyage de missionnaires, de forestiers ou d’arpenteurs, ce document clé nous permet ici de mettre à jour la localisation précise des comptoirs de traite, ainsi que des routes de canot utilisées tant par les traiteurs que par les autochtones ayant fréquenté cette région pendant la période britannique. En déconstruisant la carte, on accède à la cartographie métisse d’une région souvent oubliée dans les études portant sur la traite des fourrures.
