Abstract
Reconnu lieu historique national par le gouvernement du Canada, le mémorial national du Canada à Vimy (France) est un autre exemple d’objet phare appartenant à la catégorie « identitaire ». Monument géré par Parcs Canada, ce mémorial a, comme son nom l’indique, vocation à faire garder en mémoire l’événement auquel il se rattache. Il s’agit de la bataille de la crête de Vimy qui a eu lieu en avril 1917 et qui a permis aux Alliés de reprendre du terrain sur les Allemands et ainsi de retrouver espoir. Comme le relate l’auteure, cette bataille a permis d’ancrer l’identité nationale des Canadiens dans la mémoire collective à travers leur rôle dans ce conflit mondial, immortalisé dans ce mémorial de Vimy.
