Reflective concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) optical systems are often considered for their broadband high-reflectivity and achromatic focus. These systems can be divided into two main categories: the trough concentrator system, and the spherical- or parabolic-type mirror system. Commercial uptake of CPV systems may depend on the recognition of the present high-yield value proposition, the mitigation of perceived risk, and the progress to higher yields. Cost and reliability mitigation has been achieved in materials count reduction. In order to receive certification, CPV modules must be designed and demonstrated to be capable of stable safe operation through any misalignment. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee 82 maintains an on-line record of standards established and in development, relevant to CPV technology. Certification must not be confused with long-term reliability, Certification testing ensures that the module type and design meet nameplate performance rating and safety requirements and conform to type definition.
