Abstract
This paper explores the importance of including spirituality in the curriculum. It describes how the absence of spirituality in the curriculum has left a void in the official curriculum of public education in English-speaking Canada. The paper describes examples of programs that provide opportunities for students to explore life's ultimate questions of heart and soul. After considering some obstacles, it then proposes guidelines for including the spiritual dimension of human life in public education in ways that do not indoctrinate but allow students to investigate how individuals and cultures have addressed spiritual concerns and issues.
