Abstract
Na onderzoek van enkele elementen in het debat over de controle door de gemeenschappen met een kwetsbare taal van de toegang tot hun scholen, presenteert de auteur de tegengestelde keuzes die de Franstalige minderheid in Canada sinds een veertigtal jaar op dat vlak heeft gemaakt naargelang ze al dan niet de meerderheidsgemeenschap van de regio is, alsook sommige gevolgen van die keuzes. De situatie in Canada illustreert twee logica's, enerzijds de bescherming van een kwetsbare minderheid door het beperken van de toegang tot de door haar gecontroleerde scholen tot degenen die een historische of bijzondere band hebben met de taal in kwestie, en anderzijds een dynamisch gebruik van scholing om de etnolinguïstische verhoudingen te wijzigen. Beide keuzes kunnen relevant zijn. De eerste keuze is evenwel duidelijk defensief en zou moeten worden beperkt tot groepen waarvan niet de historische, maar de huidige kwetsbaarheid nog steeds een feit is. De tweede keuze biedt veel meer voordelen en getuigt van een dynamische definitie van aanhorigheid en cultuur, die garant staat voor een substantiële ontwikkeling in de toekomst.
