Abstract
Plusieurs chercheurs soutiennent qu’un flou conceptuel réside autour du concept de persévérance (Bélair et Lebel, 2007; Lison et al., 2011; Mukamurera, 2014). Sans prétendre à l’exhaustivité, cet article présente une recension des écrits au regard des définitions de la persévérance afin d’offrir une meilleure conceptualisation de la persévérance aux études postsecondaires. On aborde notamment les définitions de la persévérance au sens de volonté, de ténacité, d’engagement et de « grit ». Une synthèse critique permet de dégager les éléments centraux qui devraient être inclus dans la définition du concept de persévérance en plus d’exposer les arguments permettant de mieux comprendre la nécessité d’expliciter le positionnement épistémologique des chercheurs lors de l’étude de la persévérance.
