Abstract
Along with their native language preservation of national customs, rituals and traditional crafts related to the life-support system is an important factor for the preservation of national identity of the indigenous peoples of Yamal. Most respondents noted the danger of losing national identity (almost 50%), a quarter of the respondents believe that this danger should not be exaggerated, and only about a quarter of the respondents believe that there is no such danger. (TzymbalistenkoN.V. interviewed about 500 people living in rural and urban settlements of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region).In the Education Development Programme in YNAR and in the Concept of secondary schools with ethno-cultural component in YNAR special attention is paid to the following issues: coordination of study time with the rhythm of the northern crafts; providing schools with qualified teaching staff; approbation of a model of nomadic school and nomadic kindergarten; joint efforts of different entities of the education system in the development of national education component.At the present time Department of internal policy of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region tries to support the Russian general civil and regional «Yamal» population identity as opposed to identity based on ethnic and religious signs.
