Abstract
Jacques Roubaud, en bon oulipien, admire ce Moyen Âge littéraire qui a fait de la topique et de la combinatoire des éléments forts de la pratique romanesque. Il n’hésite d’ailleurs pas à emprunter à son tour aux grands réservoirs narratifs déjà fréquentés par ses pairs de l’époque. Toute son oeuvre, en effet, est traversée d’échos et de résurgences de vieux motifs, qu’il s’ingénie à dépoussiérer pour le plus grand plaisir du lecteur averti. Parmi ces motifs, tirés de l’oubli dans la réécriture, figure celui de la salle aux images, que l’on retrouve aussi bien dans la légende tristanienne que dans la production arthurienne. Jacques Roubaud s’en empare à trois reprises, dans trois oeuvres différentes, et donne ainsi à voir un travail de variation qui confirme l’accointance poétique de l’oulipien avec les pratiques littéraires du Moyen Âge.
