Abstract
Alberto Manguel a reçu de nombreuses distinctions, dont le prestigieux prix Médicis en 1998, pour son essai Une histoire de la lecture qui lui valut la reconnaissance internationale.Fils d'un diplomate argentin, Manguel a vécu sous plusieurs cieux et a tôt acquis le goût des langues et des cultures étrangères.À l'adolescence, sa passion des livres l'amena à côtoyer Borges, le grand écrivain argentin qui, devenu aveugle, en fit son lecteur.Il exercera ensuite les métiers de journaliste, de critique littéraire, d'éditeur pour les maisons Gallimard et Denoël, avant de se consacrer entièrement à l'écriture.Nationalisé canadien en 1985, il quitte Toronto en 2001 pour s'installer en France.Celui que l'on présente néanmoins comme un Argento-Canadien a fait paraître son premier roman en 1981, La porte d'ivoire.Depuis, il n'a pas cessé de publier romans et essais.
