Resumen Tomando como punto de partida una escena tardía (y, en más de un sentido, de regreso simbólico al origen) de la vida de Severo Sarduy, el artículo se propone caracterizar la posición de resistencia del autor con respecto a su presente de inicios de los años 90, proyectarla al nuestro y leer allí, al mismo tiempo, una forma de asunción de las paradojas de lo moderno -planteo temprano (sobre todo como efecto del contacto con las artes plásticas) de un debate que hoy se realiza en los conceptos de post-estética y post-autonomía. El artículo lee en diversas zonas de la obra del autor la elaboración del neobarroco como un modo de teatralizar la temática de un arte y una literatura constantemente amenazados por su propia disolución, y de elaborar una práctica y una teoría estética capaces de regular las complejas relaciones entre la creación plástica y literaria y aquello que le es ajeno, irreductible o exterior.
