La profession sage-femme renaît au Québec comme au Canada depuis deux décennies. Elle est maintenant prête pour de nouveaux défis. La recherche et les études supérieures sont des enjeux importants pour les années à venir. Après avoir exploré les thèmes du développement de la profession sage-femme, des études supérieures, de la recherche et de la formation à distance, ce mémoire propose le développement des études supérieures à distance au Québec pour les sages-femmes. \nSur le plan international, plusieurs formations de maîtrise sage-femme à distance existent. Un portrait de ces programmes dans quatre pays laisse entrevoir les exigences des programmes, les buts et les cours offerts. Grâce à ces informations, on peut entrevoir certains enjeux et orientations que priorisent les programmes et les universités dans la définition et l’organisation des maîtrises à distance. \nFinalement, le présent mémoire permet de jeter les assises pour le développement d’une maîtrise à distance pour les sages-femmes, et ce, au Québec. Ce programme n’existe pas encore. Ce mémoire désire contribuer à l’évolution des réflexions sur ce sujet. Il explore la formation à distance et certains thèmes liés à la persévérance et à l’encadrement. Il propose de regarder le développement d’un programme en regard d’une discipline propre aux sages-femmes. Il propulse les sages-femmes vers des études de cycle supérieur et le développement de la recherche sage-femme.
