Abstract
Introduction An important objective of Australia’s immigration policy is to assist in the resettlement of refugees and others in humanitarian need as part of its international obligations as a signatory of the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol. Australia has a long history of offering resettlement to refugees and other humanitarian migrants and ranks among the top three resettlement countries in the world, along with Canada and the United States of America (Department of Immigration and Citizenship 2010).
