Abstract
Dans L’Œuvre au Noir de Marguerite Yourcenar, les couleurs rouge et noire jouent un rôle prégnant et sont liées entre elles jusqu’aux dernières lignes. Surtout présent au travers des corps, le rouge y est aussi couleur de la passion et de l’érotisation, et donc d’une intensité des sentiments. Le noir y paraît symbole de barbarie, d’obscurantisme et de violence, et aussi des corps meurtris par la peste ; il est la métaphore de la démarche mystique de Zénon. Cet article montre comment, par le biais d’une construction rigoureuse empruntée notamment au schéma de réalisation du Magnum Opus, cet attachement au rouge, terrestre et musculeux, et au noir, obscur et intuitif, devient peu à peu la porte, le couloir entre les siècles, qui permettent au héros d’accéder à l’éternité.
