Abstract
In dit artikel wil Lynn Lemisko laten zien dat dagboeken in geschiedenislessen kunnen bijdragen tot een betere ontwikkeling van het historisch denken. Met historisch denken bedoelt zij in dit onderzoek: de “inside” en “outside” van een gebeurtenis. Outside: alles wat tastbaar,voelbaar, meetbaar, enz. is bij een persoon bij een gebeurtenis: alles wat te zien is “bodies and their movements”. Inside: Gedachten en gevoelens van een persoon bij een gebeurtenis: alles wat niet te zien is, gedachten, gevoelens, motivaties, enz. Dus leerlingen moeten het tastbare, het zichtbare, maar ook de gedachten en gevoelens van personen uit een dagboekfragment kunnen halen. Zij wil dat leerlingen de “inside” begrijpen en begrijpen dat verschillende mensen in verschillende tijden, ook verschillend reageren op gebeurtenissen in hun levens
