Em um continente marcado pela heterogeneidade e por enormes dife­rencas em diversas esferas, o conceito de americanidade toma por em­preitada a dificil missao de conceber um substrato cultural americano capaz de romper a fragmentacao e os limites fronteiricos inerentes a nocao de cultura nacional. Circulando pela America Hispânica (ameri­canidad), pelo Quebec (americantte) e pelo Brasil (americanidade), o conceito e suas variantes apresentam, entretanto, intrincadas dinâmicas internas de inclusao e exclusao, de abertura e fechamento, de atracao e repulsao. Atraves da analise de textos teoricos, comerciais de TV e fil­mes, e trazendo a tona a pouco explorada relacao cultural Canada -­ America Latina, tentaremos lancar luz as complexas estrategias identitarias que determinam a cartografia do conceito americanidade ao redor do continente.
