Nul médiéviste n’ignore la richesse du fonds d’archive de l’ancienne abbaye de Saint-Gall et celle de sa bibliothèque, qui conserve aujourd’hui près de 2000 manuscrits, dont près d’un quart ont été copiés ou acquis lors de cet âge d’or que furent pour l’établissement les IXe-XIe s. On comprend donc le souci des conservateurs de partager ces richesses.
