Directivity enhancement for microstrip antennas through double-superstrate configuration

Abstract
Enhancing gain through double-superstrate configuration for microstrip patch antennas has been studied. Numerical results indicate that using double-superstrate configuration will increase the directivity remarkably, even with moderate superstrate dielectric constants. It also takes the advantage of wider bandwidth. It is shown that by using superstrates with relative permittivity of 3, directivity of 15.8dBi with the impedance bandwidth of 5.3% can be obtained.
