Abstract
A detailed electrochemical investigation of BaSO4 as an additive in the electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD)-based cathode of MnO2/Zn batteries is presented. The addition of BaSO4 appears to have a positive impact on the cycling performance of EMD, but only during the first 50 cycles. The loss of EMD structure and formation of irreversible phases still remain challenging factors in the electrochemical cycling of the EMD materials.
