Abstract
Les vies d’Etienne-Louis Orenga et Louis-Napoléon Mattei nous plongent dans cette fin du xixe siècle, période charnière de transformations économiques et sociales, qui voient s’affirmer la République dans le pays. En Corse, face au puissant clan Bonapartiste, les premiers défenseurs de Marianne se recrutent dans les rangs de la bourgeoisie urbaine, notamment à Ajaccio et Bastia, surtout des commerçants et des industriels. Nos personnages sont à l’origine d’un nouveau profil d’hommes politiques qui s’imposent progressivement.
