Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Education, power and exclusion have a long association, but the introduction of public education systems opened up a wider range of possibilities for more than just the wealthy few. It also brought education into the realm of the civil commons: co-operative human constructs that protect and/or enable universal access to life goods. Along with other civil commons constructs, such as universal healthcare programs and minimum wage laws, public education systems provide a life good that ensures a better life for the majority of people. This chapter will explore the connections between education and the commons by introducing the concept of the civil commons, addressing the challenges of enclosure, and discussing education for the civil commons, education as a civil commons and education by the civil commons. It will conclude by linking education and the civil commons to the broader area of sustainability.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
