Abstract
In the current issue of CJGIM, the article by Lu discusses climate change as a health issue, emphasizing the need for physician engagement. Physicians need to become knowledgeable regarding the health effects of climate change and should be active participants trying to improve the environment. A focus on social responsibility is not a new issue for our profession, but sometimes we need to be reminded of its importance. Some of the greatest achievements in health can be found outside the domain of traditional clinical medicine. The creation of effective sewage systems for densely populated areas has had a huge impact on health, but was an idea far removed from the clinic or the hospital. It was an example of human ingenuity addressing a problem created by human imposition on nature. A human created solution to address a human created problem and this is what is needed for the problem of climate change.
