Environmental Singularity as Conduit of Foster Care Disparities: White Canadian/U.S. Social Workers Placing Children of Color

Abstract
The placement of children of color into foster care by White Canadian/U.S. Social Workers is contingent upon a Eurocentric environmental experience. The Eurocentric experience is defined relative to Norton’s sustaining and nurturing environments experienced as one and the same. The script is that Social Workers must confront Eurocentrism, which by application is a singularity that has erroneously precipitated the assignment of children of color into foster care at a rate disproportionate to their numerical representation within the U.S. and by proxy the Canadian population. Assessing the placement of children of color into foster care is enhanced by utilization of the Ecological Perspective. In the aftermath the system of child welfare and the populations it serves will be better prepared to accommodate all children and their families in an effort to reduce foster care disparities.
