Abstract
Entre 1981 et 2011, l’immigration internationale, majoritairement anglophone, a contribué à diminuer le taux de francophones dans l’ouest du Canada. Selon l’article 95 de la Loi constitutionnelle de 1867, les gouvernements fédéral et provinciaux ont une compétence partagée en matière d’immigration. Les lois et les politiques de ces deux ordres de gouvernement restent indispensables au maintien du français dans cette région. Cela étant, les mesures prises par les municipalités participent également à l’établissement d’immigrants francophones. Ainsi, cet article s’intéresse à la reconnaissance par le droit, du rôle des municipalités en matière d’immigration et aux politiques publiques locales dans ce domaine.
