Abstract
Recently, extensive research has been devoted to the bandwidth enhancement of microstrip antennas. Several techniques such as the use of thick substrates [1], and the use of multiple resonators [2, 3] have been reported. Earlier, it has been shown that a bandwidth of 30% can be achieved by introducing a U-shaped slot on the microstrip patch [4], and a bandwidth of 24% can be obtained by using an L-probe on a thick substrate circular patch [5]. Later on, another broadband antenna was presented in which both the U-slot and L-probe techniques were used with a circular patch [6]. This antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 38% and a gain of 6.8 dBi with good radiation pattern characteristics.
