Abstract
Garnier met en scene plusieurs personnages d’amis. Ils lui sont inspires par des recits epiques ou historiques, ou l’amitie contribue peu ou prou au mouvement dramatique de la narration. Il confere ainsi a une figure d’arriere-plan un veritable role theâtral, ou transpose sur scene une situation dramatique deja existante dans le texte-source : dilemme, reconnaissance, suicide. Confrontes au malheur, les personnages prouvent leur devouement aux affliges en leur apportant leur soutien moral, ou une aide effective qui fait rebondir l’action. Ces scenes topiques comportent parfois elles-memes des recits, qui eclairent le public sur la naissance de l’amitie, les experiences, les sentiments et les valeurs qui la fondent : admiration pour le courage, la loyaute de l’ami, gratitude pour son esprit de sacrifice.
