Ce texte constitue la version longue de la revue de la littérature proposée dans l'article de Peltier, Peraya, Grenon et Larose (2016), intitulé Usages et effets perçus des podcasts de type cours enregistrés : une étude exploratoire menée à l'Université de Genève auprès d'étudiants et d'enseignants. Il établit un état des lieux de l'usage des podcasts en milieu universitaire selon des recherches récentes, menées entre 2006 et 2016. Cette revue sélective de la littérature aborde la problématique des podcasts sous différents aspects : leur définition, leur description, leurs différents usages en milieu académique, leur impact sur les apprentissages, enfin l'orientation des recherches actuelles. Le texte met également en perspective ces questionnements récents avec ceux qui prévalaient dans les années 1970 déjà au sujet de la production et de l'usage de films vidéo à vocation pédagogique.
