Abstract
La fin des années 1960 et le début des années 1970 marquent un changement discursif important pour les minorités franco-canadiennes. Plutôt que d’utiliser les appellations historiques de « Canadien français » ou d’« Acadien », elles commencent à s’identifier simplement comme « francophone ». En se penchant sur les débats entourant la fondation de la Société des Acadiens du Nouveau-Brunswick et la Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse, cet article cherche à expliquer le bref attrait qu’exerça le vocable « francophone » en Acadie. L’article l’attribue à un désir d’inclusion par rapport aux individus n’ayant pas de lien généalogique avec la Déportation et à une volonté de se solidariser avec la lutte autonomiste des Québécois. Pourtant, l’article conclut que l’engouement pour le terme « francophone » n’a pas duré en Acadie, notamment à cause de la résistance populaire et de l’impraticabilité de toute tentative de « fusion » entre les peuples acadien et québécois.
