Abstract
The aim of this paper is to consider the new fictional shifts in the novels of the francophones immigrants who enter into an intercultural relationship with the literary discourse in Quebec. La Québécoite (1983), Régine Robin novel, articulates a “migrant” identity founded on the Jewish European experience and the traumatic Holocaust memory and incorporating the figures of exile, displacement and “in-betweeness” which mark deeply the postmodern (polyphonic) narrative structure. The second part of the paper examines the “migrant” imaginary among Haitian writers in Quebec. The esthetical shift can be observed between the novels introducing the Haitian alterity in a anxious way, owing to the feeling of loss and split identity (G. Étienne, A. Phelps) and those who have aimed at overcoming the gaps of identity and establish a more dialogic ( “migrant”) relationship with the Quebec and Caribean cultural space by cultivating narrative intimacy with Montreal as a familiar and cross-cultural place and by elaborating on the fictional self and on “drifting memory” (D. Laferrière, S. Péan, É. Ollivier)
