Teacher-Candidate’s Key ‘Take-aways’ from their ‘Internationalized’ Teacher Education Program

Abstract
The study is one part of a larger study around Becoming and Practicing as an Internationally Minded which seeks to better understand the international experiences of new teachers as they begin their international teaching careers. More specifically, this larger study focuses on how new teachers become more internationally minded and how such international mindedness manifests during their first year(s) of teaching abroad. The study proposed for presentation / discussion involves a short answer survey with (approximately) 20 self-selected students in an International Teacher Education (ITE) program near the completion of their coursework. The survey focuses on what the students believe to be the significant take-aways of their program. These take-aways will be compared to the broader intentions and pedagogical aims of the ITE program - including learning about the larger world, international school contexts, ethical considerations, and cross cultural dynamics.
