Abstract
On a célébré, à juste titre, l’amnistie qui mit fin à la guerre civile à Athènes à la fin du V e s. av. J.-C. Cette attitude ne saurait cependant expliquer l’événement. Malgré leurs nouvelles approches, deux études récentes n’ont pas abouti à des résultats satisfaisants dans la compréhension historique de cette amnistie. La stasis , qui a connu une longue histoire à Athènes, est dépeinte par les Athéniens de deux façons. D’une part, les skolia insistent sur les carnages et les rivalités entre factions, de l’autre, une tradition plus populaire se caractérise par sa remarquable aptitude à oublier les bains de sang. L’amnistie n’était donc pas en soit une mesure nécessaire pour mettre fin au conflit qui avait suivi la guerre civile, mais elle permettait aux Athéniens de mieux accepter les conséquences de la guerre du Péloponnèse.
