Abstract
Le séjour de Schliemann au Canada après son périple en Orient n’a pas retenu l’attention de ses contemporains, lesquels auraient sans aucun doute perçu cette visite comme un détail mineur dans une carrière déjà brillante. Le récit de ce voyage serait donc resté caché dans les pages de son journal, lui-même enfoui dans les archives. Or. une étude de ce récit révèle que ce séjour revêtit une importance insoupçonnée. Ce serait un incident survenu au cours de ce voyage qui aurait lancé Schliemann dans une nouvelle carrière qui fit de lui le plus célèbre des archéologues.
