Abstract
Étude de l’emploi des masques dans le théâtre antique en établissant des parallèles avec celui du gros plan au cinéma. Deux genres de films illustrent notre propos: d’abord, les films qui puisent leur inspiration de la tragédie grecque classique ( Oedipe Roi, Iphigénie ): puis, ceux qui ont recours à des archétypes tragiques ( La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc, Les Quatre Cents Coups, Le Septième Sceau et La Reine Christine ). Notre but n’est pas démontrer un lien direct entre le théâtre antique et le cinéma moderne: ce serait d’ailleurs impossible vu les trop nombreuses différences entre ces deux formes d’art. Toutefois, l’étude des gros plans cinématographiques et de l’implication émotive qu’ils impliquent de la part du spectateur permet de mieux comprendre l’emploi des masques tragiques.
